Living Yoga through Dance

Living Yoga through Dance

Rhythms of Gotipua dance, Orissa - As adolescence strikes, energies are automatically channelized in this village, since children are learners of the Gotipua dance style which stems of asanas and acrobats.

Every move is alignment, every muscle is churned to weave unexplored patterns of thoughts. Every poise is an asana practice offering strength and flexibility. Asana practice requires yam and niyam. Yam, Niyam, Asana... the Ashtang Yoga process builds the body and mind and ends up in a contributive growth.

Yama

Ethical disciplines that guide our behavior toward others.
They cultivate non-violence, truth, integrity, self-restraint, and non-possessiveness.
Yama is the foundation for harmonious living and inner clarity.

Niyama

Personal observances that support inner growth and self-purification.
They include cleanliness, contentment, discipline, self-study, and surrender to the divine.
Niyama nurtures a disciplined, joyful, and spiritually aligned life.

Asana

The practice of physical postures that prepare the body for meditation.
Asana builds strength, flexibility, and stability—both physically and mentally.
It is the doorway to mastering stillness and inner awareness.

The dance expresses stories of divinity reigning in this land of Jagannath Puri.

When such individuals grow, they grow integrated with internal core and body strength and values from the ancient texts; and skills of an expert - Bal, buddhi yukti and bhakti.
