Gangotri Harshil

We continue the ice cold journey at Gangotri Glacier, the start point of Ganga.

Gartangali is a forest reserve, which was once dedicated as a pass for the natives for trade of spices and handwoven woolens. It now stands as a legacy with it's famous bridge. The beautiful fragrance of Deodhar further adorns the walk as we keep moving up and down the terrains by the river.

Beautifully crafted Deodhar wooden bridge made by hand.

Carefully tucked into the stones and stands out in a cantilever well supported. Amazing are the ancient ways of building technology.

Steps that rise like a bridge

And heading now towards Gangotri, we meet sadhus en route. Asking them if they would like to enter the bus... they refuse gracefully preferring to walk.

Oxygen is surely at it's low. Boards of availability of Oxygen is set up in several places.

Entering Gangotri area

Taking a dip just after the glacier has melted, means close to ice temperature. It was an electrifying energy that surrounded the body. Ganga Mayya at her most benevolent!

Tapasya Sthal of Bhagirathi Muni. It is the place of offering prayers for the forward movement of pitras.

Moving towards Surya Kund - a legendary place and a site to behold!

Walking through the forest in search of Pandava Gufa

Glacier - part of the frozen river en route. Looking out for signages...

After a long search, we finally reached Pandav Gufa to find a Babaji living there since past several decades. Life of tapasya, austerity. He picked up his axe and said, 'Hum bhagvan ke liye jivan dena bhi jante hai, aur lena bhi yadi samay pade'. Shaastra and Shastra.

Making coffee prasad for his visitors.

Our next year's target!

Beautiful village homes. Ananda means art has to be part of it!
